Day 12:
Interview with a Vampire
This is a long-time favourite of mine. Steeped in old world atmosphere with such memorable characters: Lestat, with his flamboyance, his utter selfishness, his endless attention seeking, and his ultimate cruelty; Claudia, the ancient child who could never grow up, her love for Louis as fierce as her hatred for Lestat; and Louis, who wore his eternal life like a millstone, guilt marring his every step, love and hate warring within him. I understood Louis, felt his pain acutely, felt the weariness of his life’s journey, appreciated the complications of his relationship with Lestat. Interview with a Vampire is a beautiful and terrible story, nothing at all like today’s pop culture vamp fiction for teens. The film was incredible also and remains one of my favourites.
In a darkened room a young man sits telling the macabre and eerie story of his life – the story of a vampire, gifted with eternal life, cursed with an exquisite craving for human blood.
I read this many years ago, then found myself needing to read every one of her supernatural novels. She does spin a good tale.

I haven’t read all of them yet, but it’s been on the backburner for me.

This is one of my favourite series, along with the witches one which eventually meets up with the vampire ones, I’m missing the last two books, I need to find more time to re-read much loved books as well as new ones

You are definitely missing out, they are fabulous. This is one lot of books I won’t be culling when I eventually work myself up to that challenging task

I started with this one too and was hooked, but I haven’t read the witches ones either. Another series to track down!

It’s a series with longevity, which is always a good sign!

This is one of my all time favourites and sparked a love of Anne Rice novels. Can’t imagine ever going back to read this again though. What if it doesn’t live up to the memory I have of it?

That is exactly why I don’t re-read many books Tracey!

I don’t re-read any books but the primary reason is that it means giving up the opportunity to discover a new favourite. Although having said that, I’m happy to watch favourite movies over and over, but that only takes 90 mins compared to 8-12 hours. I guess it comes down to the fear of missing out, and a concern I won’t be as enthralled in the book as I was the first time around.
