The Week That Was…

It’s been really lovely to do some Christmas decorating this week. Nothing makes a room more homey than decorating for an occasion. My Nutcracker family is expanding as well with the addition of a tall silver Nutcracker.

Second joke of the week:

My excitement at having my new dining table and chairs delivered quickly turned to despair when I saw the chairs coming into my house in boxes…flat boxes. The instructions are so sketchy and while the furniture looks nice, it’s not exactly made all that well. Some of the bolts are hard to screw in because the threads aren’t right and on some occasions, the hole I’m screwing a bolt into seems almost too small for the bolt. I have only two chairs together out of six because doing more than one at a time is out of the question. The entire experience is extremely frustrating.

So, I hear you ask, I thought this was meant to be a joke. Oh, it is. A bad joke.

And I can’t do anything about it because once the chair pad is nailed onto the the frame, the chair can no longer be pulled apart and put back together again…not that I was a fan of that option anyway!

To be honest, pushed under the table, I can’t even notice. But it bothers me, a lot! Just on principle.

What I’ve read this week:

What I’ve been watching:

This is the second season with the ‘new’ actors and they all felt familiar this time around. More’s the pity, because the next season is seeing a change of cast again for the purposes of representing further ageing. The Queen is still my favourite. I think I enjoyed this season the most since the very first one. My favourite episode was Fagan, episode 5. There was so much in that one about the push for economy at the expense of welfare and community well-being. I felt it showed the Queen at her best and Thatcher at her worst.

Until next week… ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ“šโ˜•

  1. Bad luck with the flat-pack furniture. It may be a Judgment on starting Christmas so early ;). I was brought up to know that decorations went up on Christmas Eve and not a day sooner. These days I’m not quite so hard line – but almost.

  2. Flatpack furniture – the curse of modern life. I have to say Ikea instructions are pretty good. My desk is Ikea. However I got someone in to put together the big things. My husband has no talent for handling tools. But I think we’ve all made some mistake in flatpack assembly at some point and had to go back to the beginning! I’m not through watching all the Crown series 4 yet, but why did they make Prince Charles such a sop!

    • A good incentive. And is an absorbing show, so I can see why you’d wait to watch. I didn’t watch it as soon as it came out because I was just too tired from the move, etc. I knew I didn’t have the attention span then. Glad I waited. I think I enjoyed it more for doing so.

    • I saw some pics online of the new cast. They’ve done a good job again creating lookalikes, but I know what you mean, it doesn’t seem like the same series with a new cast. That’s what season 3 was like for me.

  3. The little glimpses of your decorations look lovely!

Putting together furniture is the WORST! Rob and I have nearly divorced many a time over it haha. I can’t imagine doing a lot of it solo…. Thankfully I know someone now who really enjoys that sort of thing so generally I just ask her for help!

  4. We’ve just finished The Queen’s Gambit (which was great, although there are issues with alcohol use as an FYI) but it means we are now ready for The Crown.

You could try using some builder’s bog filler stuff to cover up the holes in the chair, although matching the paint could be tricky.
