I’m super thrilled to announce that Tracey Allen from Carpe Librum and I are teaming up for a buddy read! π
We’ll be reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier in the first week of August to coincide with the original publication date back in August 1938.
A modern classic and an international bestseller that has never been out of print, Rebecca is a gothic novel set in the fictional estate known as Manderley.
Even if you haven’t read it (like me), you’re probably familiar with the famous opening line:
“Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.”
Tracey and I are very keen to turn this into a bit of a community buddy read. So if you want to participate, drop me a comment below.
The official start date is Sunday 4 August and we’ll be reading through to finish the buddy read by Sunday 11 August.
We’ll be discussing the novel as we go over at the Page by Page Book Club with Theresa Smith Writes Facebook group. Closer to the date, we will set up a Facebook event and invite all who have indicated their intended participation.

So many people I know love it and say it’s their favourite classic. I’ve never even seen a film adaptation of it so the story will be entirely fresh for me.

Same here, I really know nothing about it. Maybe you can do one for Jane Eyre lol, I’ve been meaning to reread it, need a push to make time.

I don’t have time to read this book at the moment but I think one day I must give it a read, I have no idea what this book is about nor do I know of this author – I hang my head in shame. I’ve now added it to my list of classics to read.

There’s a lot of classics out there Sue, you can’t expect to have heard of them all! It’s taken me this long to read this one myself! I understand about the time factor, reading a classic does take that little bit more, I think.
