I’m not sure what’s happened between today and yesterday, but I can’t comment on any of the WordPress blogs I normally visit. I’ve tried multiple times with ANZLitLovers, Whispering Gums, 1Girl2manybooks, Reading Writing and Riesling, and Mrs B’s Book Reviews. It allows me to go through the motions of commenting but then my comment gets gobbled up into cyberspace. It’s very frustrating!
I’ve tried logging in and out, different browsers and devices, even contacted the WordPress helpline – nothing has fixed it! I’m hoping it’s a glitch that will just sort itself out. Fortunately, I can at least comment on my own blog. But in the meantime, I’m restricted to liking!
Hi Theresa, I had a similar problem only last week. It lasted a day and then the next day everything was fine, so I hope it corrects itself very soon for you.

Glad to hear this! Especially since WordPress had no idea what may be the cause.

At the time I just figured that it must have been me – I can be technologically challenged at times. I may have also just shut the computer down and restarted it. It’s getting a bit old and quite frequently gets its knickers in a twist. But it sounds like it wasn’t me at all – good to know.

No! It’s likely the same glitch as what I’m experiencing.
I commented on your post today too, I just remembered, about the ballet. I thanked you for the write up! The costumes looked sublime. I can imagine the production would have been unsettling at times. How incredible ballet is, to convey stories like that! It’s more than just dancing around! We’ll have to compare notes on Spartacus.

Absolutely! When I was having the glitch, I had tried to comment on your blog and couldn’t figure out what was going on. I am so glad you liked the post about Dangerous Liaisons. Yes, it was definitely a little confronting, but I am so glad I went. Sometimes we need to be challenged.

We do! Most definitely!

Hi Karen. Would you mind checking your spam folder on your blog for any comments from me? I have popped up on another blog as spam. 😔 If they are there, could you mark as not spam for me? Thanks!

Hi Theresa, found your comment – done! I didn’t even know there was a spam folder (definitely technologically challenged). Found some very interesting comments in there that were definitely spam. Learn something new every day. I hope this doesn’t turn out to be an ongoing issue for you.

Thanks Karen. I’m hoping for a quick fix now. WordPress pointed me in the direction of Akismet who manage the comment filtering. Fingers crossed they can mark my user as not spam, or something like that.

I hope so too. It’s been an excellent conversation and raised an issue we can all keep an eye on. Thanks.

Where do I find the spam folder? Not that there’s probably anything in there.

When you’re in the admin part of your blog, if you click on comments you should see some options of approved, spam and trash.

Cool, thanks, all I had were 7 real spam messages lol

I had to go looking for it too – and then I noticed the drop down menu in comments – Oh. I didn’t have much real spam either, but at least I know where it is now.

Me too! There’s been some good posts today that I wanted to chat on!
Imagine if I can never comment again?!! 😱

That would be absolutely tragic! Don’t even suggest it.

I have been having similar problems for ages, have reported it to WP and got nowhere. SO please, do log it as an issue and keep at it. Maybe one day they’ll fix it.
In the meantime, try using a different browser. If I’m in Internet Explorer, I find that I have to log in over and over again, but at least with most (but not all) if I click on the icon, it remembers me and logs me in to comment though it still won’t let me like anything.
If I copy the URL to Firefox, I can usually, but not always, like posts. And I can usually but not always comment. (If I didn’t hate Firefox so much as a browser, that would be the solution, but hey, I think WordPress should work for all the common browsers not just the ones they like. (At work, we only ever had IE, and there were controls to prevent students and teachers downloading any other browsers so that was all we had and if it didn’t work we couldn’t use it).
I’m going to have a look in my spam folder now just to check that that’s not part of the problem. Will get back to you if I find anything there.

Ok, the bad news is that I found six comments in my spam folder. I have marked all of them Not Spam even though some of them are repeated efforts to say the same thing. You need to contact all the bloggers you think you’ve commented on, and ask them to search their spam folders (only for the last day or two) and mark everything from you Not Spam. If things aren’t sorted out once people have done this, then we will need to contact WP on your behalf.
How do I know all this? Because it happened to me a year or so ago, and it was awful. I felt cut off from all my friends! But Stu and Sue and others came to my rescue and it was fixed up very quickly so do not worry too much *hug*

Oh no! How frustrating! That almost makes me think that I’ll be considered spam for WordPress for every blog I try to comment on! I’ll message each blogger to let them know and get onto WordPress then.
I’m glad I wrote this up into a post now, at least I have an idea of the problem. Thanks Lisa! It’s awful not being able to comment!

Still no luck! I just tried to comment on your Good Doctor of Warsaw review and it just disappeared!

Hmm, I just checked my spam folder and there’s nothing there from you. That’s very strange.

Amanda from Mrs B’s Book Reviews couldn’t see any of my comments in spam yesterday but Brooke from 1girl2manybooks could. This is very strange!

PS Ok, have just reported this to Akismet Support on your behalf.

How’s your comments issue going? It’s interesting that you can like others comments on blogs OK, but not actually comment on them.

I’m just experimenting right now. I can comment on ANZ LitLovers, Books are my Best and Favourite, and 1girl2manybooks. I can’t comment on Mrs B’s Book Reviews, Reading Writing and Riesling, or Book’d Out.
I am officially confused!

I’m back! According to Akismet, after some changes made to my user, I should be able to comment again across blogs. I’ve dropped a few comments this morning as a test and so far so good!
