One more challenge…The Classics Eight

It might look like I’m signing up for challenges left, right, and centre, but in reality, so far I’ve only picked up one extra, The Aussie Author Challenge. I always do the Australian Women Writers Challenge and Bingo will be entering its second year. I figured I had ample room for one more.

This one is just a personal challenge I’ve made up. I’m calling it The Classics Eight. See, I have a bit of a book collecting thing going on. I love beautiful editions of books and these mostly tend to be classics. I keep buying them, but apart from a few favourites, I haven’t read them, ever. I’m always telling myself I need to read more classics, so here I am, officially telling myself: you will read more classics!

The Classics Eight challenge:

Read 8 classic titles over the course of the year

That’s it! So easy, there are no excuses. Even though this is an unofficial challenge, feel free to join me if you too want to read a few more classics in the new year.

  1. Hi Theresa

I am in a few challenges this year

    The Australian Woman Writers Challenge
    Annual Aussie Author Challenge
    Annual Extra A-Z Challenge
And I am doing the Summer Challenge as well, I think that will do me for 2019 good luck.

    Have Fun

  2. I also want to read more classics. This year I read Frankenstein (didn’t enjoy it) but definitely want to read at least one classic in 2019. I have a few of the Penguin Clothbound classics on my shelf to choose from: The Day of the Triffids, Robinson Crusoe and Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

  4. Well, can you believe it I’ve never read a classic before unless you count 1984 by George Orwell and is it a classic or more literary political fiction? I’m a little excited about participating unofficially in your book bingo challenge as it will give me a chance to read a couple of classics. I’ve never been interested in classics or cared for them but recently and due to ‘reading challenges they have piqued my curiosity. Though, I have had To Kill a Mockingbird on my book bucket list for quite a while and this year is the year I will finally get to read it! Looking forward to seeing what classics you choose, Theresa, if you rate them highly I will add one or all to my TBR classic list.

  5. Hi Theresa! There’s actually a whole online club called The Classics Club, which you might find exciting? Although I see above you find a five year goal understandably daunting. πŸ™‚ They have a Twitter as well as a site:

    https://theclassicsclubblog.wordpress.com/how-to-join/

You sign up to read & blog about 50 classics of your own choosing in five years. There are hundreds of members, & lots of them visit and interact as you read through your list & interact on twitter under the hashtag #theclassicsclub.

I popped over here because I saw you were joining the classics club in my WordPress feed (I follow the tag #theclassicsclub), & I thought you meant the actual Classics Club. πŸ™‚

Good luck with your reading goals!

    • Hello! I should have known such a catchy title would already exist! I’ll tweak my hashtag to make it different.
Thanks for the offer to join, but I only intended on doing this as a personal challenge. However, if I succeed in this one, I may look at joining your classics club next year. Just need to break the ice, so to speak.
